About Gingivitis and Bad Breath
Gingivitis is a bacterial infection of the gums. Healthy gums are pink and firm, fit comfortably around the teeth and do not bleed easily. But, gum disease or gingivitis cause red, swollen, tender gums that bleed easily during brushing or flossing. As gingivitis gets worse, gums pull away from the teeth, the breath is bad (halitosis), pus coming from the gums and teeth become loose.
Gingivitis can usually be managed at home with good dental hygiene, including regular and correct brushing and flossing and regular visits to dentist. If gingivitis continues, despite the effort to prevent it, contact a doctor to investigate the possibility of an underlying illness.
Chronic gingivitis may be risk factors for the development of rheumatoid arthritis.
